Sweet Dreams

Treating Insomnia with Christian Values

I had been suffering from insomnia for well over 2 years. Chronic insomnia. I never told my doctor though, in fear that he would just prescribe me sleeping pills. I wasn’t interested in experimenting with any of those medications. I know how dangerous and addictive they can become, and none of that felt aligned with my Christian values. As time went on, the lack of sleep began to really affect me, my family and all those around me. Without sleep I was always tired, cranky, on edge, I just wasn’t myself.

It was not until my Pastor asked me if something was wrong that I realized how obvious it was to everyone around me that something was indeed wrong. I wasn’t getting enough sleep and it was taking a huge toll on my life. I am grateful for the comfort I felt in openly discussing my sleeping problems with my Pastor. Fortunately for me, he had the answer to my problems which I will share in just a minute.

It turns out that I am not alone. Insomnia affects over 30% of people. What’s different is how insomnia is treated. When I shared my reluctance to try drugs with my Pastor, he understood and felt the same way about their destructive and addictive nature. He suggested I try using all natural plant oils, which date back to Biblical times.

Every Gift Comes From Him

James 1:17 says “Every good gift comes from Him.” And this includes all the healing plants on God’s great Earth. So instead of trying sleeping pills, I decided to put my faith in the creator rather than a pharmaceutical company. Ezekiel 47:12 says, “Along the bank of the river, on this side and that, will grow all kinds of trees … Their   fruit will be for food and their leaves for medicine.” Today, just as they were then, leaves and their vitamins and nutrients are compressed into pure extracts, known as “essential oils.”

There are 188 references to oils in the Bible. From the Gospel of Matthew, you probably know that the three wise men brought essential oils of frankincense and myrrh(along with gold) to the Christ Child. Precious plant oils were widely used for the anointing and healing of the sick.

Sweet Dreams: 5 Pure Plant Extract Oils

My Pastor recommended I try Sweet Dreams, a unique blend of 5 plant essential oils. Sweet Dreams uses the following specific plant oils that have been prized for their ability to ease the mind and relax the body to support a full night’s sleep.

Lavender was known in ancient times as Spikenard. In addition to being used when Jesus was at Bethany visiting Simon the Leper as told in Mark 14:3, this precious ointment was used by Mary to anoint the feet of Jesus (John 12:3). One of the 11 herbs used in the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, modern research shows lavender has natural sedative properties and can, promote deep peace and tranquility.

Chamomile has been used for centuries to help people sleep. Many Bible scholars believe that the passage in Psalm 103 referring to the flowers of the fields specifically describes chamomile. Biblical herbalists point to chamomile’s use as a remedy for relieving anxiety.

Orange Oil is widely used as a natural remedy for stress and nervousness. The hypnotizing scent brings physiological and psychological relaxation to the mind and body. The sweet aroma puts the mind at ease so it can peacefully drift to sleep.

Coriander is the oil which the ancient Israelites likened to mana bread from heaven. Coriander seed is rich in both Vitamin B and magnesium, which allows it to work as a natural muscle relaxer. The oil soothes nerves, reduces stress, aids the digestive system, and subdues anxiety.

Juniper is mentioned in Kings 19:5, when Elijah, running for his life, fearing death at the hands of the wicked Queen Jezebel, lays down and finally falls asleep under a juniper tree. “Behold, there was an angel touching him, and he said to him, “Arise, eat.” Although Elijah was discouraged, he realized the best solution was to just get some sleep. And it turns out that the tree he slept under has been proven by research to help ease nervousness and promote relaxation.

Essential Oils Belong in a Christian Home

The Bible instructs us that God gave us plants for healing. Sweet Dreams contains the carefully extracted, concentrated oils of plants. Because of modern medicine, the therapeutic compounds of these plants have been largely ignored. All we have to do is turn to scripture for restful sleep.

With a combination of prayer and Sweet Dreams, I’ve been sleeping great for months and my life feels back on track. I only wish I had found Sweet Dreams sooner, but I hope that my story helps you. “If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.” (Proverbs 3:24). May God bless you, may He give you wisdom, strength and a good night’s rest.
