My Two Hacks for Staying Healthy While Working and Traveling

It’s that time of year again. Leaves are changing, pumpkin spice is in my coffee and all of my coworkers are sniffling, hacking germ-machines. And then when it’s time for me to get away from the 9-5 and go visit my family across the country, I have to spend hours in the bacteria and virus filled sky tube we like to call airplanes.

Don’t get me wrong, I adore my office-mates and I love to travel. But this time every single year, I start to see the wave of sickness that wafts through the air and debilitates all in its path… Well, except me. I have a secret weapon in my arsenal: an expertly crafted blend of essential oils clinically proven to support the proper function of my immune system(1)!

I won’t bore you with TOO much of the science behind how this works (trust me, there are a TON of studies), but I can give you a great example of how this is proven to help support your immune system. Clove oil, one of the five oils in Vitality’s Infinite Immunity blend, was tested and proven in several studies. The subjects that inhaled the clove oil saw an increase in antibody production and increase in lysozyme levels(2)Lysozymes are enzymes that help destroy cell walls of certain bacteria, so you KNOW that’s helping me to not get sick.

This is just one example of how multiple medical studies prove the effectiveness of the product I use. As a blend of five oils, Infinite Immunity doesn’t JUST support the immune system—it is antimicrobial and antibacterial, it helps with my occasional headaches, it helps to alleviate my anxiety and that helps me stay focused on the task at hand.

My first approach to an illness-free holiday season is protecting myself in the office. Adult influenza infections alone result in $87 billion per year in healthcare costs and projected lost earnings. These infections result in an average of 2 to 6 lost working days! Even if an employee doesn’t stay home sick, productivity suffers, accounting for a 64% loss in the contribution of the worker(3).

My favorite ways to use Infinite Immunity at work are applying it topically and using a small diffuser; I’ll tell you a little more about both.

  • To use topically, I use the convenient roll-on bottle of Infinite Immunity. It comes prediluted with virgin cocunt oil for safe application, even on the most sensative skin. I apply the oil right from the roll-on to my pressure points, like my wrists or right behind my ears. If I’ve had a hectic day with a lot of meetings and deadlines, I’ll even put some on my temples and where the back of my head meets my neck: no tension headaches for me, please!

  • If I want the aromatic properties, I have a small water diffuser I keep right next to my keyboard. Be warned, you may have multiple drop-ins of coworkers asking what the amazing smell around your desk is! This stuff not only works great, but smells amazing too. My diffuser runs on and off all day, and just a few drops lasts my entire shift. Another one of the oils in this blend is Eucalyptus oil, which has been proven to combat some of the scary things that can be airborne, including Tuberculosis, MRSA, Influenza, and other viruses(4). I like to think of it as a kind of superhero shield for the office.

As if you didn’t have enough reason to fall head over heels for Infinite Immunity blend, it has some other awesome perks. Lemon and rosemary oil are two other key players in this mix. Lemon oil has been tested countless times in clinical studies, and has not only shown that it increases dopamine(5), but when tested on subjects doing memory tests, their memory was improved after being exposed to lemon oil(6).

Rosemary oil underwent similar tests showing improved clarity and better memory performance(7). In my busy line of work, I need all the focus and clarity I can get! But once the hard work (without using up sick time) is over, it’s time for the fun: travel!

I absolutely love to travel. Especially around the holidays, when I get to see my darling nieces in sunny California. But when I started really traveling in my early 20s, I found I was always getting sick a couple days into my vacation. It took me a few trips to figure it out, but then it hit me. Duh, airports and airplanes!

With more than 2 billion airline passengers annually, in-flight transmission of infectious diseases is an actual global health concern. There are documented cases of dozens of diseases being transferred on a plane, including cases of cholera, influenza, measles, MRSA, norovirus, SARS and tuberculosis(8). SCARY!!

But maybe you’re road tripping and not flying? You still want to bolster your immune system! Due to many factors completely unrelated to flying (changes in climate, stress, eating and drinking habits while on vacation), it’s very common for people to get sick when they get home. The CDC even has a special section of its website(9) devoted to this phenomenon. Some people get sick before they even get back home, something so common that some doctors call it “leisure sickness.”(10)
