How To Treat Blackheads Using Essential Oils

There’s nothing fun about any kind of blemish except for getting rid of them—and the sooner, the better.

Blackheads are blemishes that are the hardest to get rid of, they are not removed right away (unless you pop them- please try not to as they can cause scars) and you need to apply treatment consistently.

The way blackheads form on your skin is from clogged hair follicles. You may be more prone to them if your body produces too much oil, something that often takes place with hormonal changes that occur during the teen years.

Using essential oils on blackheads is an all-natural way to do away with them and if you use our methods, you can get rid of them and even prevent blackheads from coming back.

You might be thinking, why would I use an oil to get rid of excess oil?? Well in most cases, oils cancel out oils so you don’t need to worry about an increase of natural oil on your face, plus there are added benefits to using each oil as you’ll read below.

Here are four essential oils to help combat blackheads:

TEA TREE ESSENTIAL OIL

Tea Tree is often used as a disinfectant, antiseptic, and anti-fungal agent. It treats blemishes, helps prevent blackheads, and stops infections.

Tea tree oil has antimicrobial, astringent, and antibacterial properties. It keeps the skin from making too much sebum, the oily substance that clogs the pores, resulting in acne. It clears bacteria, which prevents blemishes from becoming larger.

How to use: Use it as a scrub for any troublesome area of your skin by missing two drops with a teaspoon of baking soda.

LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OIL :

Lavender is one of the most popular essential oils in the world with numerous uses, including reducing acne and restoring skin complexion.

It cleanses skin, keeping it clean, free from dirt and other pollutants, which helps prevent the pores from clogging. Lavender is antibacterial so it’s great at handling blackheads and acne. It’s gentle, making it a great choice for sensitive skin.

How to use: Mix a few drops of lavender with carrier oil such as almond and apply to blackheads.

EUCALYPTUS ESSENTIAL OIL :

Eucalyptus is another antibacterial and antiseptic, wards off bacteria, keeping the skin free of excess oil that can result in blackheads.

How to use: Mix a couple of drops with a moisturizer or cleanser and apply to affected areas.

Or make a scrub by combining 1 ½ cups each of sugar and coconut oil, 1 tablespoon of sea salt; add approximately 20 drops of eucalyptus oil and mix.

LEMON ESSENTIAL OIL :

Lemon is very useful on impurities and oily skin, a good remedy for treating acne and blackheads. Like tea tree essential oil, its astringent properties help remove excess sebum in the skin and get rid of germs and bacteria that result in blackheads.

If you use lemon, keep in mind that most citrus oils are photosensitive and can increase the risk of sunburn, if exposed to sunlight. After using citrus oils, it’s best to wait 24 hours before going in the sun and make sure to use sunscreen (as you should be using everyday anyways!)

How to use: Mix with carrier oil before applying.

More tips!!

Try these various essential oils to see which one works best on your skin and does away with those difficult-to-remove blackheads.

  • Before applying any essential oils, dilute with carrier oil, cleanser or moisturizer, and wash your face or other affected area. Do a patch test beforehand to make sure your skin is not sensitive to oil.
  • If you prefer to apply treatment as a spritz, use as a spray by combining essential oil (s) with carrier oil and water in a spray bottle.
  • Here’s another natural scrub recipe you might like: combine sugar and honey to desired consistency, then add whichever essential oil you desire.
  • You can also do a facial steam by adding a few drops of essential oil to steaming water.

Use essential oils on blackheads regularly for best results—it’s an all-natural solution to keeping your skin healthy and you happy.
